St Curig's Church, Llangurig: Seven Stations for our Visitors

This guide to the church and the scheme of windows by Burlison & Grylls was written by J.R. Stirk. who has been researching the history of the church for many years.

The church was largely rebuilt at the expense of Chevalier Jacob Youde William Lloyd between 1877 and 1880, to the design of George Gilbert Scott, who died in 1878. The furnishing of the church, and the unique scheme of windows, was directed by the Chevalier, and included local historical themes, the heraldry of local families and the traditions of the patron of the church, St Curig.

As well as new images of all of the windows, the booklet illustrates past and present carving, fabrics, metalwork and bookbinding associated with the restoration of the church in the 1870s.

The book is structured by a series of ‘stations’ at which different windows and parts of the church can be viewed, and the restoration of the church understood.
